935166 CPL. A. BRIERLEY. MM. R.F.A.

 

I have no biographical information about this man.

 

Alfred Brierley came from West Ealing in London.  He enlisted with the Royal Field Artillery, originally with service number 1103, which was later changed to 935166.  Service numbers in the range 935001-940000 were allocated to 282 BDE, RFA TF/ 1/3 LONDON BDE. 

 

According to The Long, Long Trail, this III London Brigade left 1st London Division and joined 36th (Ulster) Division in September 1915. Moved to France and transferred to 38th (Welsh) Division, 11 December 1915 and IV Corps Artillery on 1 January 1916. 47th Division from 27 January 1916. Rejoined 56th (London) Division 25 February 1916. Redesignated 11 May 1916. Left 23 January 1917 to become an Army Brigade.

 

Alfred’s award was announced in the The London Gazette, Supplement 30797, Page 8312, on 12 July 1918.

 

For anyone seeking further information, there are two sets of War Diaries for 282 Bde available to download from the National Archives.  For the period October 1915 – December 1916, the relevant reference number is WO 95/2941/1.  For January 1917 – July 1919, the document reference is WO 95/205/7.
